Core Messages
  • Fuel Up to Play 60 is a new program created by National Dairy Council and National Football League that empowers students to make changes at school that will  help them “get active and play” for 60 minutes daily and “fuel up” with critical nutrient-rich foods missing from their diets – like low-fat and fat-free dairy foods,
    fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
  • The program is designed to help combat childhood obesity and help youth develop life-long healthy eating and daily physical activity habits.
  • Fuel Up to Play 60 combines the excitement of the NFL with challenges, prizes and rewards that inspire kids to get active and eat right.
  • Fuel Up to Play 60 encourages kids to get involved to make real changes to their schools. This program reaches youth directly and engages their help in leading and inspiring their friends to do the same.
  • Students and schools work together to expand opportunities for physical activity and increase availability of more kid-appealing, good-tasting, nutrient-rich foods, such as low-fat chocolate milk, yogurt and fruit parfaits, whole grain pasta and salad bars.
  • In Texas, Fuel Up to Play 60 is provided by Dairy MAX and the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys. It is part of a national initiative to promote healthy eating and physical activity by the National Football League and National Dairy Council (NDC).
  • For more than 90 years, National Dairy Council has offered research and nutrition education programs in schools with a commitment to providing leadership in the fight against poor nutrition, inactivity and obesity among our nation’s youth.

Key Program Features
  • The youth-led program uniquely reaches out directly to students for their help co-creating and leading the program at the school level.
  • Fuel Up to Play 60 combines the powerful nutrition expertise of National Dairy Council and the fitness expertise and “star power” of NFL to provide youth with tools and resources to improve their personal health and school environment.
Program Components
  • Interactive Web site (www.fueluptoplay60.com) - where students can sign up and take the pledge, play games and track healthy behaviors while earning points towards the Fuel Up to Play 60 National Competition.
  • Free Fuel Up to Play 60 Wellness Activation Kit for schools - available at www.SchoolWellnessKit.org, the kit includes customizable healthy eating and physical activity programs and tools, such as posters, healthy habits pledge cards and tracking sheets. These resources will help students and adult advisors with co-creating and leading Fuel Up to Play 60 efforts in their schools.
  • Fuel Up to Play 60 competition - for students and schools to track their healthy eating and physical activity changes and potentially win great prizes. Fuel Up to Play 60 kicks off on October 15, 2009 and runs through the 2009/2010 school year.
