A growing body of research shows that enjoying three servings of low-fat or fat-free milk, cheese or yogurt each day as part of a nutrient-rich balanced diet may help maintain a healthy weight. In fact, studies show that people who consume more calcium and dairy foods weigh less and/or have less body fat than those who consume little or no dairy.

Together, milk, cheese and yogurt provide a unique package of nine essential nutrients that help Americans improve overall diet quality. In fact, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans listed low-fat or fat-free milk or milk products, along with fruits, vegetables and whole grains as “Food Groups to Encourage,” meaning Americans should include more of them in their diets to help meet nutrient requirements.
