Why the Learning Connection Matters to Me

When I grow up I want to be a pilot. I want to fly people around the world! Before this happens I know that I have to work hard in school and get good grades.

The Learning Connection has helped me understand how I can be the best student to make sure I reach my goal.

I am going to share somthing very personal. Last year I had a lot of struggles with school. It was hard for me to do 4th grade work. It became really hard for me and I was frustrated.

My teacher and parents helped me to find out that I have a learning disability called dyslexia. This means that my brain learns differently than other kids. It sometimes makes me take longer to get work done and I have a hard time spelling words.

After I found this out, it helped me to know how my brain learns and what I can do better. I am lucky to have a school where the adults really care about their students.

We have been a Fuel Up to Play 60 school for three years now. Because of this our school has become a very healthy school. We have nutritious snacks and do brain breaks all the time to stay active. I agree with the Learning Connections that being active helps the brain focus better.

If I was not able to do brain breaks every day I do not know if I would be able to be here today. This is really true with my dealing with dyslexia.

We need to make more kids aware of the Learning Connections. We kids are smart and understand a lot more than maybe some adults think.

I believe if more kids knew how they could be better students if they ate better foods and were more active, then they would definitely do it. I also think it would help them to understand how their brains work when they are healthy. It will make them make better choices. They may also be able to help their whole school become healthier.

Brains are the most important part of our body's and we need to make sure they work the best. The Learning Connection has helped me understand how I can be a better student even though I have challenges.

I will continue to do my best in school and sometime in the futures you may hear my voice again over the speaker of a plane saying Ladies and Gentlemen this is your Captain speaking.
