Schelli Avant has over 10 years’ experience guiding children toward healthy fitness and nutrition habits, and she’s a firm believer in the need for dairy, especially for youth.  An alumna of the University of Houston, Navarro Junior College and Hardin Simmons University, Schelli holds a Bachelor of Science in human nutrition and foods as well as a Texas Teaching Certification for K-12 physical education. She has worked as an athletic director, health teacher and physical education coach for both public and private institutions, including Brazosport Independent School District and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston/Houston. She also belongs to CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health), a program that coordinates health initiatives between schools and communities, and has volunteered with the American Heart Association and the Houston Food Bank. Originally from Lake Jackson, Texas, Schelli now lives in New Braunfels with her husband, Dennis, and their two children. 

Favorite healthy breakfast?

Coconut yogurt with peanut butter granola.

What always makes you laugh?

Hearing my children uncontrollably laugh. 

Your food/nutrition mentor growing up?

My mom always created balanced meals and focused on an all-around healthy diet without eliminating any particular foods.
