Katy Bowen, M.S., RDN, LD

Director of Community Outreach, Culinary Health Education for Families (CHEF)

Katy Bowen grew up on a cattle ranch in the Texas Hill Country, earned a Bachelor of Science in nutritional science from Texas A&M University and later a Master of Science in nutrition from the University of the Incarnate Word. She now works for CHEF, an innovative program that provides hands-on culinary nutrition classes to children and their families in San Antonio.
 
Katy previously worked with Texas AgriLife Extension Service’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, the Social & Health Research Center and as the nutrition education/wellness coordinator at North East Independent School District, where she implemented a breakfast cart program with help from Dairy MAX.
 
In 2015, she received the Award for Outstanding Nutrition Education at Multiple Sites from the Texas Association for School Nutrition and was named the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year by the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2016. 

Katy has served on several local and state boards and as director of the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. In her spare time, she is a dietetic intern preceptor, a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Child Nutrition & Management and a member of the San Antonio Mayor’s Fitness Council.
