Associate Director, Colorado Area Health Education Center

Matt Hess received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Baylor University and is nearing completion of a Master of Social Science from University of Colorado Denver. He taught students expelled from the public-school system for 3 years, then managed an afterschool program for one year before transitioning to the non-profit sector. He joined World Hunger Relief, Inc. as the Education Director – a role he served in for 6 years before transitioning to become the Executive Director of the Organization. World Hunger Relief, Inc. operates a 40-acre training farm primarily managed by interns and other trainees, engages in food and education-based community development in McLennan County and abroad.   

In 2017, Matt returned home to Colorado and joined Colorado Area Health Education Center (AHEC) as the Grant Development and Marketing Coordinator. He now serves as the Associate Director. In this role he oversees AHEC Scholars, a program dedicated to preparing students across health professions for team-based care dedicated to health equity. He also works to encourage high school students to consider health care careers.
